Michael Karas has created a very nifty spreadsheet tool to help with creating characters on 16 segment displays.

Once you go to the link, you will need to use "save as" on your browser to download the file since some browers don't seem to know it's an excel spreadsheet file, and don't forget to enable macros which the spreadsheet uses to create the data from the character. Then you can simply click on the segments you want lit and Michael's tool does the rest!
