New alphanumeric LED displays

6 June 2011

LCD displays are just fine, but if you want something visible from across the room, you need something just a little bit larger. LED dot matrix displays are great for that, but require lots of driving and fonts and so on.  And so after much development we are pleased to present our new 4 digit 16 segment 1 inch LED displays.

16 digit displays

Available in any colour you like, as long as you like red, yellow or blue, these modules are based on the TI TLC5926 driver chips, giving you 100% unmultiplexed display brightness, along with 256 levels of analogue current control should you need it.  The displays have separate LED segment and driver chip power lines, allowing you to control your display with whatever voltage your microcontroller is running at and power the LED segments at whatever they require (this depends on the colour).  The protocol is a simple shift-in serial interface, allowing any microcontroller with a couple of spare pins to start displaying whatever words you like.  16 segment displays are very capable of displaying a number of symbols as well as letters and numbers.

What's more, they're all pre-assembled with four complete digits, and ready to go.
