There's a storm front coming!  And to find out how far away it is...

...you need the new MOD-1016 lightning sensor module.  Based on the award winning AS3935, you can detect storm fronts and lightning up to 40km away.

Finally, you don't need complex electronics to detect the electromagnetic pulse from lightning - you can simply query this module over I2C.  It can interrupt your microcontroller when there is a lightning event and does all the heavy lifting of calculating how far the storm is away - and can even inform you as the storm front gets closer or moves further away.
